About Brand Book

I wanted to go to a ranch. I couldn't find a good list of them. So I made one.

Me in a straw cowboy hat, sitting on a dun horse in a green pasture at Rowse's 1+1 Ranch.

Why I built it

When I started looking for a ranch vacation, every list I found was thin, out of date, or wrong. The same ranch listed twice. Day trail rides listed as places to stay. Two sites giving two different answers to the same simple question.

In the summer of 2026 I spent a week at Rowse's 1+1 Ranch in the Nebraska Sandhills. I rode every day, checked cattle, rode along in the tractor for haying, and ate more than I should have. I fell in love with it. I wanted other people to find a place like that without the hunt I went through, so I built Brand Book.

  • Me on a dun horse by a wooden barn, in work gloves and a straw hat.
    Saddled up by the barn
  • The view between a dun horse's ears, looking out over a grassy pasture.
    The view from the saddle

How the listings are made

Every fact on a listing comes from the ranch's own website, and I link back to it. If a ranch doesn't say something, the listing doesn't guess. It says the ranch doesn't say.

I also reach out to every ranch on the site. I ask if they want to send their own photos, and if they want anything on their listing changed.

No ranch pays to be listed, and there are no ads. If a ranch asks for a change or asks to come off the site, I take care of it.

Where I've been

So far that's one ranch, and I'm going back. Next up is Kara Creek Ranch in Wyoming in June 2027. When I stay somewhere, I write it up on that ranch's page with my own photos, kept apart from the researched details.
