When to go: a ranch vacation calendar
Branding in spring, family weeks in summer, quiet adult weeks in September. Pick your season, then pick your ranch.
Spring (April to June): branding and drives
Working outfits get busy early. Dryhead Ranch starts spring drives in mid-April, Lonesome Spur guests help brand and gather in May and June, and Diamond 7 Bar holds a May branding week. Spring weather can swing from snow to sunshine, so pack layers.

Summer (late June to August): family peak
This is when kids programs run. Nine Quarter Circle and Elkhorn Ranch open their family seasons in mid-June, and Triangle X runs its kids and teen programs only in peak season. Week-long summer stays fill first, so book early.

Late August and September: adults-only weeks
Once school starts, many family ranches switch to adults-only weeks. Nine Quarter Circle, CM Ranch, Elkhorn, and Lazy L&B all begin them in late August. Flathead Lake Lodge and Sweet Grass Ranch hold adults-only weeks in September.

Fall (September and October): roundups
Cattle come off summer range. Bitterroot Ranch holds a late-September roundup, Kara Creek's fall cattle program runs through October, and Lonesome Spur gathers from mountain pastures in mid-September and October.

Winter: year-round retreats
A handful of ranches never close. The Ranch at Rock Creek, The Resort at Paws Up, Triple Creek, Brush Creek's Lodge & Spa, and Lone Mountain Ranch, which trades trail rides for Nordic skiing, all welcome guests year-round.
